Oh the weather outside...
The weather outside is freezing! And if you look closely, you will also see SNOW! Well, at least some snow flurries. And while we aren't expecting a major snowfall just yet, it's still a good reminder to be prepared.
To prevent plumbing freezes, drain all outside water hoses, and insulate any exposed water pipes. Know where your emergency water shut off valve is located. Leave a faucet dripping when the temperatures are below freezing to ensure your pipes don't freeze. And if you are going out of town for the holidays, be sure to leave your heat on and set to at least 55 degrees.
Go ahead and buy a snow shovel, salt for the sidewalk and driveway, and scrapers for your car. You don't want to be caught without, and once a big snow actually hits, these items can sell out quickly.
Read our earlier post regarding servicing your furnace for winter. And if you use your fireplace, call the chimney sweep to clean the soot and creosote and check the damper. Store firewood in a dry place, away from the exterior of your home.
Always be prepared! Have an emergency kit available with candles and matches, or laterns, battery back ups for electronics, blankets, first aid kit, and water and non-perishable foods in the event of a power outage.
Stay warm and safe! And if you need something to do while hanging out inside during the cold weather, search for homes at Family Realty!
