Pumpkin Smash at the Louisville Zoo

The Louisville Zoo has wrapped up “The World’s Largest Halloween Party!” presented by Meijer, leaving behind hundreds of decorated pumpkins. So they have decided to put them to good use! This Sunday, November 4th from 10:30am-3:00pm, you and your family can watch as the animals in the zoo get to enjoy the pumpkins! This kind of animal enrichment improves the health and happiness of the animal residents at the zoo. Watch as they explore, play with, and eat the pumpkins, bringing a satisfying end to the Halloween holiday!

Halloween on Hillcrest

Halloween on Hillcrest is a spooky and delightful tradition on Hillcrest Avenue, in the Crescent Hill neighborhood. Each year residents of Hillcrest spend tons of their time and money on extravagant decorations, making the street come alive with the spirit of Halloween. Some residents have displays that are consistent from year to year, while others come up with new themes every year. During the month of October, an estimated 75,000+ visitors from near and far make it a point to drive to Hillcrest Avenue and walk up and down the street to see the what scary surprises are in store.

On the big day, the street will be blocked off to traffic, and Hillcrest Avenue will be flooded with Trick-or-Treaters, with on average between 2,500 to 3,000 children.  This year, Trick-or-Treating will take place on October 31st from 5pm to 9pm, rain or shine. The residents of Hillcrest Avenue participate in this spectacular event on a voluntary basis, and generously provide candy to all of the Trick-or-Treaters out of their own pockets. Halloween on Hillcrest is a wonderful example of neighbors coming together to bring joy to the community, which is yet another reason that we at Family Realty are so proud to be Louisvillians.

Shotgun in Germantown

Fall is my favorite time of the year. The leaves are beginning to change, temperatures (finally) cooling off, people out and about enjoying the sights and sounds of their neighborhood. On the subject of neighborhoods, the Schnitzelburg neighborhood is quickly becoming one of the cities most sought after areas to live, due to its’ history  and convenient location to many local small businesses. 1117 E Burnett  is a recently listed renovation in real estate Louisville that offers an excellent opportunity to be a part of this great neighborhood!

This traditional shotgun home has a good sized living room with hardwood floors and an updated kitchen. The master bedroom is large with hardwood flooring & 2nd bedroom (which was added by current owners by adding a wall & door) has 2 closets & hardwood flooring. The updated full bath has new vanity, flooring & newly tiled tub/shower combo.

There is a detached oversized 1-car garage with lots of storage area. The garage has a new garage door & garage door opener. There is also a covered front porch, covered back patio & fenced yard.

Halloween at the Zoo

Kick off Halloween and the month of October at the Louisville Zoo's "World's Largest Halloween Party" presented by Meijer!  The event will be held a total of 18 nights in the month of October, every Thursday thru Sunday from Oct 1st to 30th.  This is a fantastic event where children can dress up as their favorite character and safely trick-or-treat at the zoo.  Viewing the animals is a bonus during this event!

Tickets must be purchased in advance.  Prices vary depending on the weekend, and whether or not you are a zoo member.  Zoo members only pay $1 per person on Oct 1-2, 6-9, and 13-16!  Please visit the zoo's website for additional details and pricing.  All patrons must pay the $5 parking fee (cash only).

Rain or shine, the event begins at 5pm and guests may arrive during the one hour window of their selected time printed on their ticket.  The last group enters at 8:30pm, and the zoo remains open until 10:30pm.

The Louisville Zoo is conveniently located in the Highlands at 1100 Trevillian Way, between Newburg Road and Poplar Level Road.

The Louisville Highlands is a very desirable area of town, for many reasons.  The main artery is Bardstown Road, which boasts plenty of local shops and restaurants that attract people of all ages.  Cherokee Park and Seneca Park, as well as other parks, are focal points for outdoor activies, from golf to walking, running, hiking, and biking.  There is a great balance of coffee shops, farmers markets, and nightlife all to be had in this one area of town. Visit the Family Realty website to search for your new home in the Highlands today!
