Making the Move More Enjoyable
The physical task of moving isn't the most enjoyable process in the world. It is however a task that once completed gives way to the excitement of putting your new home together the way you want it to be. Whether the move is local or across the country, there are some adjustments to prepare for once you've settled in.
Evaluating your commuting routes will be one process, figuring out the best way to get from home to work or from home to school means grabbing a map and a little trial and error. As with all change though, a little exploring around your new area will make you more aware of what's around and possibly give you more convenience than your previous residence.
For kids...a move can be exciting but during the school years is often accompanied by fear if it means attending a new school and "having to make new friends". Try to be supportive of your kids and look to the neighborhood or school programs to get them involved in activities which will serve to introduce them to new friends. During a summer move you may find a local pool or day camp will offer an affordable and fun way for children to meet some of their potential schoolmates. Change is scary for most people but it doesn't have to be as bad when your family works as a team to help make the transition less stressful.
In any instance regarding the move, you shouldn't expect your new location to be exactly the same as your previous location. People have a tendency to try to recreate things they once found enjoyable but with a little enthusiasm and an open mind you'll see new opportunities and possibilities which will be different than before...but great in their own way.
